The Full Story

Our Family Story, Our Shared Values, Our Home

Our Family History:

The heart of Adult Care Housing began in 2002 with a truly special person, Niece Jochims. Her vision wasn't just about providing housing; it was about creating homes – places filled with compassion, respect, and a genuine sense of belonging for adults with developmental disabilities. She laid the foundation for what has become our Adult Care Housing family. We've grown over the years, becoming well-versed in navigating the APD system, but that original spirit of care and community remains our cornerstone.

As of 2025, the leadership of our family is in the caring hands of Michelle Tolini. Michelle has been a vital part of our team for more than a decade, and she is deeply committed to nurturing the family environment Niece created and ensuring our legacy of support and joy continues to flourish.

Yet, beyond our founders and leaders, the true soul of Adult Care Housing is our extraordinary team. Adult Care Housing would simply not exist without our devoted direct support professionals, house managers, and leadership team. Day in and day out, our staff pour their hearts, expertise, and patience into making each residence a genuine home. They are the champions celebrating every milestone, the steady hands through everyday challenges, and the everyday companions who turn moments into lasting family memories. Their enduring dedication and compassion are the bedrock of everything we do.

Championing Quality & Statewide Advocacy: A Trusted Voice for the I/DD Community

At Adult Care Housing, our commitment goes far beyond the four walls of our residences. We believe that true advocacy means actively shaping the future of care, elevating industry standards, and ensuring individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) have a strong, influential voice at every decision-making table.

We don't just follow standards—we help set them. Adult Care Housing and our executive leadership proudly serve as recognized statewide advocates and policy leaders across Florida:

  • Arc of Florida Colleague: We work shoulder-to-shoulder with The Arc of Florida, standing as dedicated partners in the statewide movement to champion human rights, expand community inclusion, and advance opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Provider Representative, Qlarant Quality Council: Serving on the Florida Statewide Quality Assurance Program’s Quality Council (facilitated by Qlarant and AHCA), our leadership provides critical provider insight, monitors service quality, and directly contributes to enhancing service delivery standards for Medicaid Waiver participants across Florida.

  • Provider Representative, Florida Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC): Appointed to represent residential and disability service providers at the state level through the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), we bring real-world frontline perspectives directly to state policymakers to ensure Florida Medicaid programs remain responsive, high-quality, and person-centered.

When you join the Adult Care Housing family, you’re not just gaining a supportive home—you’re joining an organization that actively fights for, elevates, and protects the dignity and future of the entire I/DD community.
